Submitting a Superbill

What is a superbill?

A superbill is a detailed, itemized receipt provided by clinicians that lists services rendered, diagnoses, and procedure codes. These bills allow for out-of-network reimbursement for psychological services that you may receive. Superbill reimbursements cover part or all of your service costs through your insurance, based on your plan and provider. For specific out-of-network reimbursement rates we recommend you contact your insurance provider.

How long do I have to submit my superbill?

Typically, superbills must be submitted to your insurance provider within 90 to 365 days of receiving services, but this varies by company and plan. You should check your plan for the most up-to-date information.

How often will I receive a superbill?

All clients at Respec Psychological Services have superbills generated at least once a month. If you need superbills at a different frequency/time of the month, please contact your provider directly.

What is included in a superbill?

Superbills include information needed for insurance reimbursement. Each superbill will include:

  • Date(s) of sessions/services

  • Service code (also called CPT code, listed as Service)

  • Diagnosis code (listed as DX)

  • Provider details

  • Fees charged and paid

Where do I access my superbill?

Superbills can be accessed through the SimplePractice client portal. Once you have logged into your client portal, navigate to the “Billing & Payments” tab.

At the bottom of this page is the “Insurance and Reimbursement Statements” section, which is where your superbills will be located.

For more information about invoices, statements, and superbills in SimplePractice, please see this help article or ask your clinician directly.
